ZAP Cancer Project showcased at the Znanstival 2025
Institute of Oncology Ljubljana (OI Ljubljana) together with its innovative ZAP Cancer Research Project in the 16th Znanstival, a festival dedicated to promoting science and education— that took place on the streets, bridges and squares of Ljubljana from May 30 to June 1, 2025.

Throughout the event, visitors of all ages were drawn to our lively stand in the Garden of Experiments on Stritarjeva Street, where they could explore the fascinating world of cancer research in an interactive and accessible way.
Children enjoyed hands-on lab experiences such as pipetting colorful solutions, discovering lab tools and exploring the development of melanoma through virtual reality goggles. Adults enthusiastically tested their skills on a breast self-examination model provided by Zveza slovenskih društev za boj proti raku (protiraku.si) and learned to recognize various skin lesions.
Visitors young and old took part in an interactive quiz where they could test their knowledge of cancer and win prizes, while many took the opportunity to look at healthy and cancerous tissue under a microscope.
The ZAP Cancer stand was run in conjunction with other European-funded projects such as 4D PICTURE, Can.Heal, e-QoL and RadExIORSBoost, all of which are helping to drive research and innovation in oncology. The collaborative presence underscored the spirit of partnership and knowledge sharing that drives the Institute’s mission.
The three-day festival was filled with lively discussions about cancer prevention, early detection and the latest research, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive, and our booth was filled with curious minds and smiling faces throughout the event.
